One of the things that brings me the most joy in this life is incorporating wild food and medicine.

I love making herbal salts and seasonings because it's an easy way to add wild food and medicinals to our modern diets. Real, pure salt is an amazing catalyst for herbs and great for preserving all of the wonderful aromatics, flavors and phytochemical constituents when using fresh herbs. I love using Hawaiian Sea Salt or Celtic salt, because it has over 70 trace minerals, something our food can be lacking in because of depleted soil. Real Sea Salt also allows for mineral processing, which gives our bodies the ability to retain electrolytes. Real salt keeps the body hydrated and helps us balance fluids.

Wood Sorrel (Oxalis) has long been a favorite of mine as a trail side snack. It has such a great tart lemon flavor that almost catches you off guard the first time you try it. The perfect match for fish and small game or chicken. Flavor aside, Wood sorrel aids with digestion and soothes upset stomachs. It's also been traditionally used for sore throats, mouth sores, swollen gums and sinus issues.

Definitely want to smoke some trout with this wood sorrel salt as the curing salt 😍

I'll be picking up a nice amount of salt tomorrow for a big batch!
