As the season slowly transitions, I've been getting excited about the upcoming seasonal remedies. The first one will be released tomorrow and I am SO excited 😍 so stay tuned 🤗
Another remedy I've been wanting to make but am still in the experimental stage is a foraged wild apple cider tea blend. We all know apple cider to have those lovely fall notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and so on. While that's easy to grab from the store, I wanted to create this blend with similar flavor profiles and aromatics, but crafted with plants from the borealis forest.
I started with picking some beautiful wild apples on my equinox walk, then some apple leaves and then began to look for "spices". I picked some beautiful Linden seed pods to roast to lend the blend a nutty aroma. Then, I came across some Wood avens, aka Clove root to replace traditional cloves. I harvested some Rosehips for an extra kick of tart and sweet. Finally, I harvested some Sweet flag that I found in with the cattails. I harvest the roots, which taste like a combination of cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. I sweetened the brew with maple sugar and it was everything I hoped for 😍
Tea blend: Wild apples and apple leaves, Linden seed pods, Wood avens root, Rosehips and sweet flag root. Pure maple sugar.
