🌿Trout Lily + Forsythia Salve
Trout Lily leaves
Forsythia flowers

I love incorporating Tallow into my salves because it helps so much with bioavailability and is such a good catalyst for herbal compounds. For this salve, I infused the trout lily leaves and Forsythia flowers in both the Tallow and avocado oil.
Forsythia. This beautiful yellow flower is such a hope bringer for me. It's one of the first flowers to bloom during Spring, long before even the Dandelion or Violets. It's a sure sign that the days are getting longer and warm weather is on the way. Not only beautiful, the Forsythia is medicinal from its blooms to the young tender leaves and the fruit both in traditional use and modern day studies. Forsythia has been found to contain both broad spectrum antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties! Such power and beauty in one plant!
Trout Lilies are such a treat and we're lucky to have an abundance of them here in the Northwoods. They make a great trail side snack and can be eaten raw or cooked (however, don't over do it!). Like most Spring edibles, they're a wonderful lymphatic mover. Topically however they are a powerhouse. From being anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and even holding drawing properties (for splinters and such). Historically, they've been primarily used for wound healing.
