Everything we make is because I or my family and sometimes my 1:1 clients needs or has needed support in a specific way. I don't make any remedies just to make them. They all have intention, reasoning and real life experience behind them and everything we are is a combined collection of life, education and a whole lot of passion.
As most of you know, my youngest has type 1 and while we're a year into managing it now this disease still throws curve balls, it's really hard being an out of body pancreas. Sometimes when his blood sugar levels are running high he deals with yeast rashes. The higher sugar levels in his body are the perfect environment for yeast overgrowth, it's a vicious cycle and was actually one of the first symptoms he had the months leading up to his hospitalization. Luckily it doesn't happen often anymore, but when he does get rashes, one of the few things that give him relief is arrowroot powder. So we put together a baby powder for him. Not just for yeast rashes but most stubborn diaper rashes, any that would benefit from baby powder, but herbal and talc free ☺️
This baby powder is made with Spilanthes leaves and flowers, Jasmine flowers and Oregon Grape Root, powdered extremely fine and combined with arrowroot powder which is incredibly soothing and healing in itself.
A little about the plants 🌿
Spilanthes: The yeast buster is what I like to call this plant. While I love it for many reasons like oral health and tooth pain, I really love it for yeast overgrowth. Both for yeast internally-like Candida, and topically- like Candidiasis in our case the form of diaper rash. Spilanthes have even caught the eye of modern medicine and have been successfully peer reviewed for its antimicrobial properties since 1992.
Jasmine: There is truly nothing quite as divine as the scent of fresh Jasmine flowers. Once dried they don't quite hold on to those aromatics the same but they do still lend a gentle beautiful herbal scent. That aside, I chose to use Jasmine because they're incredibly gentle and offer both healing and soothing properties that are often overlooked. Jasmine is both restorative and balancing ❤️
Oregon Grape Root: This may be one of my favorite herbal first aid plant allies. While a diaper rash isn't normally cause to pull out the first aid kit, Oregon Grape Root has many properties that make it an excellent choice. It's antimicrobial and antiseptic and just such an ideal herb for everything from minor wounds to painful or itchy rashes.
Right now I'll be loading them on the site in 4oz jars because it's easy enough to sprinkle on, but if folks really enjoy it then I will order some proper baby powder jars, similar to spice jars/lids but larger ❤️🌿
