This nipple cream has an incredibly hydrating and healing base of Tallow and Lanolin. I learned that balms that are made with herbal oils and waxes are amazing and soothing but for dry cracked skin however they aren't actually hydrating. Oils and wax are occlusives and emollients so they don't actually provide moisture but rather just seal in and protect. If you already have dry lips there isn't any moisture to seal in. So to actually bring moisture back you need to add an anhydrous ingredient that will emulsify a small amount of water soluble ingredient. So, we dove down the rabbit hole and learned that Lanolin can hold water, it can actually hold 2x its weight in water and is super moisturizing. Boy did that make a difference! The balm also has Marshmallow root glycerite emulsified into the blend as its incredibly soft and slippery due to the mucilage adding additional moisture and healing. I've also infused Calendula. It's one of my favorite herbs for infants and mothers. It's such a great antimicrobial herb and is excellent for yeast (thrush anyone?), rashes, and even digestive support and oral health.
